I know the oil cooler housing is one. If it's 5w30, it might far too thin, seeing as it's got 110k miles on the clock and it's a hot running engine. Now, to be fair, I have no idea what oil is in. That's a fairly high consumption (although I'm hoping as a side effect that it aids cleaning the engine lol).

which is roughly enough to take it from full on the dipstick, to low enough that the MIN symbol appears on the instrument cluster. My 1.8T seems to be using about 800ML of oil every thousand miles. So, one problem sorted, another one appears :D Fantastic lol.
